About the author  


Kiran Kasturia, a former lecturer, earned an M.Sc. with a focus on child development. She has won the National Children's Book Award and numerous CBT competition prizes. She has written for the NCERT and CSE as well as contributed to magazines like Children's World and Grihalakshmi. 

 

Synopsis  


Manu’s parents got him a raincoat, which he adores and eagerly waits for rain. He asks his mother if he can wear the raincoat, but his mother asks him to wait until it rains. The whole week goes dry, but on Friday, Manu sees some dark clouds drifting over. On Sunday, it finally rains, but Manu is so overwhelmed that he forgets his raincoat.  


Reading Writing Strategies


Pre-reading 


  1. A raincoat themed dance party can be held before starting off with the book. 

  2. A circle time can be organized where children are motivated to share their stories about rain.


During-reading


  1. The children can be asked to predict when the rain will fall.

  2. Concept of the water cycle can be introduced followed by the concept of water. 


Post-reading 


  1. Children can be divided into groups and then be asked to make fun projects based on the water cycle and related topics. 



Children can be asked to solve this puzzle.

Reflection  


The Red Coat is a colourful book filled with beautiful illustrations. The book is decent and appropriate for children. It is an inspiring story that teaches children patience and how to be calm. It is a reminder that good things come to those who wait. It also emphasizes the importance of staying positive and not giving up on your dreams. The book can also be used to introduce scientific theories and terms to young children. Overall, the book has been very nicely executed with the words and the concept.
